The KAFO consists of the Wheaton Brace AFO connected to a thermoplastic upper component (Knee extension, KO) with touch fasteners. The upper component is designed to keep the knee flexed at 90° flexion. When used with the lower component (AFO), it allows for torque correction of tibial torsion, applying a direct corrective rotational force on the tibia without any torque on the femur or hip. By overlapping the two components and using touch-fasteners, infinite positions of adjustments can be made to determine the amount of torque desired and the growth of the leg during correction. Specify left, right, or pair when ordering. The Wheaton Bracing System is an innovative and cost-effective device for the treatment of intoeing disorders in infants and young children. It is a ready-made thermoplastic device that comes in several sizes to fit children from birth to 4 years of age. The device comes in two components: 1.) The lower component (Wheaton Brace, AFO) is designed to apply a 3-point correction for the adductus/varus foot. It comes in two series - the MTA series with the ankle at 15 degrees plantarflexion to prevent iatrogenic heel valgus during correction in the younger infant, and the TEV-CRB series with the ankle at 90 degrees dorsiflexion (neutral position), necessary for the infant with clubfoot, and toddlers. 2.) The upper component (Knee extension, KO) is designed to keep the knee flexed at 90° flexion, and when used with the lower component (AFO) allows for torque correction on the tibial torsion.
